Apple and Samsung conclude court case charging iPhone patent thefts
The legal case between technology rivals Apple, Inc. and Samsung Electronics over the design and features of their competing mobile phones, the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S , wrapped up on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in the U. S. District Court located in San Jose , Calif., as reported on that date by The Associated Press , U.S. News and World Report , The Charlotte Observer , The First Post , and other media sources.
Some are calling the 3-week trial the "Battle of the Titans," after the fact that the two companies made more than half of the smartphones sold worldwide by July 2012.
Apple is demanding $2.5 billion dollars from the South Korean manufacturer, claiming that technology for both the market-busting iPhone and iPad models were cloned by Samsung. For its part, Samsung, which had total revenues of $148.9 billion in 2011, is counter-suing Apple for a relatively piddling $399 million, almost chump change in the world of high finance.
While imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, it is considered treachery and patent infringement in the business world, not far removed from industrial espionage.
